Central Florida Regional Hospital Complaint-Unfair Hospital Billing For The Uninsured

Subject: Unfair hospital billing for the uninsured
My Name: billthis
My City: SANFORD
My State/Territory: FLORIDA
Country:USA
My Complaint Against: Central Florida Regional Hospital
Complaint Category: Doctors & Hospitals
Claim Amount (Approx.):
My Complaint Description:

Permit me to introduce myself. I am a 57-year-old male with a heart condition. 13 years ago I had a triple bypass. I have recently had two procedures done at Central Florida regional Hospital, Sanford Florida. Inasmuch as I have a pre-existing illness. I am uninsurable therefore, I am self-insured as a self-insured person. I am asking the hospital for the same pricing and courtesy. They would extend to any other insurance company.

This of course will reduce my bill by thousands of dollars. More importantly, should I succeed in my quest. It will open the door for other uninsured individuals to receive the same pricing, as shall we say Blue Cross and Blue Shield or United Healthcare, or better yet, Medicaid. Medicaid is state funded health insurance, why should we the people, which obviously have less money than any of our good states; paying more for medical procedures at the hospital than your state. I propose that medical billing for hospital and doctor procedures to uninsured individuals be at the Medicaid rates. Large insurance companies have had their thumb on the working-class people for decades. They lobby in Washington to suppress national healthcare. Therefore, national healthcare will never be viable, at least in my lifetime. However, with a little help from the people, we may be able to open a new avenue for the middle and poor classes an avenue of self-insured. A method by which our hospitals would be obligated to charge the same pricing as they would an insurance company or Medicaid, example, I was charged for one of my procedures $21,495.25 for a self-paid person Blue Cross and Blue Shield would pay the hospital. A meager $3,166.00, United Healthcare would pay only $3,500.00 Medicaid would have paid approximately $2,149.53. You must agree the people who are least likely to be able to pay a $22,000 bill would be the middle to poor classes you and me. Yet we are charged enormous fees. Ask yourself why; my guess, the enormous tax write-offs. I ask you to help me fight the hospitals the large for-profit as well as the not-for-profit corporations to obtain better health care at affordable pricing for all uninsured Americans. My proposal is this. I personally am willing to assist any and all Americans that have been charged enormous medical bills from any hospital to contact me with their billing procedure codes. I will be processed the codes determine the correct Medicaid billing price, write the appropriate negotiation letter to which ever hospital it may be and suggests that we be charged Medicaid pricing. The more people involved in this procedure. The sooner we Shall prevail.

Cedar Sinai Medical Center Complaint-Unethical Billing Practices

Subject: Unethical Billing Practices
My Name: daphane
My City: LOS ANGELES
My State/Territory: CALIFORNIA
Country:USA
My Complaint Against: Cedar Sinai Medical Center
Complaint Category: Doctors & Hospitals
Claim Amount (Approx.):
My Complaint Description:

I am sure many consumers have at one time or another experienced bad customer service. Well, at CSMC they have excelled in being the worst!! Details: when you visit a doctor any CSMC medical facility, you are charged for 1. Physician fee; 2. CSMC facility fee (I.E exam room); 3. Leasing of all equipment used (I.E ultrasound mach etc.) Seems fair, of course we can all agree that if you are provided a service that service should be paid for and whatever equipment used should also be as well.

Problem 1: a routine visit to a physicIan in an exam room when it isn’t necessary for the physician to touch you (literally) **maybe** billed as an operating room procedure. Yes this has happened to me. The reason for stating “maybe” is because CSMC bills certain procedure codes depending on the insurance company you have. I.E. When I had blue cross Illinois the same visit was billed as an office visit. Now that my insurance has changed to an excellent reimbursement plan they bill the same type of visit as an operating room.

Problem 2: they double bill insurance companies and patients (Proof available). situation#1 saw doctor x on 06/19/06; insurance is based upon a fiscal yr (06/19/05 through 06/18/06); insurance carriers changed from one company to another. CSMC billed blue cross-il for dos 6/19/06 then billed united health care for dos 6/19/06 then they billed me 2 facility copays. Make no mistake I did not have dual insurance which they were aware of because I provided this info to CSMC. Of course both insurance companies are launching an investigation into their billing activities. to make matters worse when CSMC sent me a bill I paid it!!!

Now CSMC has sent me to collections for an unpaid bill. Of course I have proof of payment. Yes,I have contacted the billing dept, supervisors, anyone who would listen. Everyone says it is not their department and shrugs their shoulders.

Moral of the story: please be diligent in selecting your doctors. Make certain you know which hospital affiliation he/she is with. If the doctor is in a medical facility or hospital ask questions!!!!About billing. Do not assume that your insurance will protect you. Ultimately you are responsible for all incurred fees. Whether they are justified or not.

If you live in Los Angeles avoid Cedar Sinai Medical Center. They may have excellent doctors, no question but that is not where the problem lies. The doctors save lives not the facility (CSMC). Most of CSMC doctors have private offices. When available use the md’s private offices. What good does it do to have a doctor save your life only to have a facility murder you with the aggravation of endless unethical billing. Which by this time no one at CSMC cares anymore

PS: This problem only occurs with the CSMC facility billing department. They are experts at inflating bills to the better paying insurance companies to offset the loss they have for non-paying patients or underpaying insurance companies.

My Complaint Description:
I had a procedure done in 6/06, received bill and paid in full in 10/06. Received another bill with the exact same date and codes only appeared twice and the bill had obviously been added twice. After numerous calls to the number listed on the bottom of the page and I even directly called the billing dept at least 8 times no one ever called me back. I have the bank statement that shows the check went through and they still sent me to collections. So today 1/14/07 I’m still trying to get their mistake corrected. Only now I also have the headache of trying to get it off of my credit report. I called the hospital billing surpervisor 3 days ago and still no reply.

Brookside Estates Complaint-Who ARE These People?!!

Complaint Category: Doctors & Hospitals

My Complaint Description:

ELDERLY AND THEIR CAREGIVERS, BEWARE!!! You hear a LOT of these complaints, but this building takes the cake. From the 93% staff turnover (no joke) to the unqualified “wine bar manager” Executive Director who had NO previous experience with elderly or a large group of staff prior to this, to the worn out carpeting, lack of maintenance, and rude staff…

THIS IS NOT SOMEWHERE YOU WANT YOUR MOTHER OR FATHER. The good, sweet staff that these people get are quickly scurried out of the facility because of the upper management. In the 4 years Mom has been there, I have seen 3 Executive Directors, 4 head nurses, 8 housekeepers, 3 maintenance men, 3 secretaries, and DOZENS of caregivers come and go.

The building has much potential, but it seems that the corporate office won’t allow it. It’s more of a soap opera than an elderly care center. They don’t plow their driveway in the winter, and countless other inside things I could say but choose not to… How they are still in operation, I’m unsure. So don’t get on their rotted out bus that frequently breaks down to head to Brookside Estates because you’ll be in for a rude awakening.
